Because when they make another literary list, it will be 1,000 white dudes and that perennial two-fer token, Toni Morrison.
In Native Lit it's always Leslie Marmom Silko (look! Native Lit that even white people can enjoy!!) and Joy Harjo (the oh-so-coveted threefer... Native, female, LESBIAN!! *gasp*).
